poem read by Allison Riechman-Bennett
Tonight, I'm a poet
Ruby Rosi
Today, I am a poet
whose words have been plundered.
The jays have taken them
for seeds
turned them to whispers
in the wind.
The sunlight flickers,
through the dancing leaves
dreaming of latitudes
it’ll never reach.
The valley wears
its wilderness well.
I turn and there;
separated by the cloud-line
the two blues pretend
not to know
each other
as the mist begins
its slow study of
the zephyr’s grammar
Above,
a silent
reminder
this symphony
does not deny us
its eternity.
Tonight, I am a poet
with no words left to speak,
the moon,
the one
nocturnal sun
has claimed them all.
Ruby Rosi is a visual artist, author, and poet residing in Greece who avoids referring to herself in the
third person. By day, she designs and photographs; by night, she writes under her pen name. Her poetry has
appeared in Photoworks, and her fiction is forthcoming in Leisure Magazine.
When she’s not writing, you can find her rambling on substack, losing track of time among the flora, or
chasing whatever niche interest has caught her eye this week.
