Hope’s Restoration - Tara Temprano
poem read by Timothy Arliss OBrien
Hope’s Restoration
Tara Temprano
Hope’s backpack is filled
with the dreams and goals
we fold like cake batter
to tuck in pockets
or zipper compartments
as reality’s shark-like teeth
chomp down
cracking into moments
we wish we could take back.
His waking dreams
Opens the portal
To infinite human wisdom
Unlocking the threshold
Of the dawn of a new year
Walking through
Head held high
Awaiting the window of opportunity
Clear and present
When hope is commanded
To lift our dreams and goals
Out of the backpack
Slung without effort
Over his bruised shoulder
And whispers to faith
As she coaxes a smile
And hope is restored once more.
Tara Temprano works at creating better and less stressed teachers and more eloquent and engaged students while developing creative and empowered poets. She finds poetry is an integral part of the arts and has saved her more than a few times. Two of her poems will be published in the Paterson Literary Review (Alan Ginsberg Honorable Mention) and Soup Can Magazine. Her hope is that a poem will reach someone who needs it at the time they need to hear or read it.
