Hubble Save Us - Dara Goodale

poem read by Timothy Arliss OBrien

Hubble Save Us
Dara Goodale

the eye of god

does not look back at what he has created

he peers out into the cold depths of space

the primordial universe

immortalized

captured under his gentle gaze

kaleidoscope still frame:

dusty spirals of young galaxies

and fiery remains of supernovae

reflected in the mirrors

behind his mechanical brain

yes, the eye of god is indifferent to our lives

but we will wage our wars and stake our claims

we will weep and pray, fall in love and die

and we will believe he is watching

so we can pretend we aren’t lonely

and that it’s all in his name
