Blackened Feathers of the Moon - Linda M. Crate

Blackened Feathers of the Moon
Linda M. Crate

how long do i have

to dance alone?

does the universe

punish those who love

with their whole hearts

simply because it

can?

i am tired of dancing

by myself,

want to know the sun

meant to adorn my

sky;

too long this moon has

spun with her own light

i need someone else

to cut through this darkness

sometimes for me—

need that sun

to take my hand and

spin me around,

need that kiss that will take

me to peace in every

universe in this one and beyond;

i thought once that was

meant to be you—

but it turns out a raven

can love a rosefinch but perhaps

a pink bird wants more than

the blackened feathers of the moon.

Linda M. Crate (she/her) is a Pennsylvanian writer who, having read poetry in her youth, it spoke to her soul. Fiction is wonderful, but there's
something about using the shorter form of poetry to punch someone in the gut and make them see things differently, that
appeals to her.

You can find more of her writing on her page.
