Romantic Couplet - Joshua C. Pipkins

poem read by Nicholas Yandell

Romantic Couplet
Joshua C. Pipkins

Love is a racehorse, galloping

toward the finish of life and living.

I have lost sight of Love’s galloping

more than I care to admit. I am living

a crowded life in a stadium of living

dead, and I think if Love stops galloping

I’ll die too. Love is galloping

toward death and dying, and living

has been my only wish. Galloping,

and almost to the finish, Love is living

a hell that I’m scared I’m living

too. I shout for Love to turn her galloping

and escape before we’re both living

dead. Love is dead, and I am galloping.
